URSULA BEILER: GRÜSS GÖTTIN AND AURA
TIROL PANORAMA, Innsbruck
The artist Ursula Beiler employs with GRÜSS GÖTTIN the female form of the German greeting “Grüss Gott” (May God greet you), which is in common usage in southern German, Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol. From 2009 to 2016 the original stood by the roadside of the A12 motorway near Kufstein as a form of greeting to people arriving in the Tyrol by car.
The temporary installation of a new edition of Beiler’s work in the setting of the TIROL PANORAMA and the Museum of the Imperial Rifles – a place of celebration for male-connotated heroism – strengthens the dissonance deriving from the replacement of “God” (Gott) by the female form “Goddess” (Göttin).
